Team Bai Spotlight

I have said plenty about myself on this blog, so I thought it would be nice to introduce you to the rest of Team Bai. Here’s our first entry, from someone a little closer to home. Check back for other Team Bai Spotlights in the future …

Name: My mom and dad usually call me “Sweetheart” or “Honey.” My brother calls me “STOP! NO! THAT’S MINE! AAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!” (Funnily enough, I have the same nickname for him.)

Position: Product tester and spokesmodel.

Background: Currently working on my nursery school degree, majoring in finger-painting and sharing with a minor in snacking. Career-wise, my mom sometimes says that I “work her last nerve,” but I have yet to see a paycheck from that.

Favorite things to do outside of work: My hobbies include playing “tea time” with my dolls, fighting with my brother, riding bikes, doing sidewalk chalk art, and needing to use the bathroom 15 minutes into a road trip even though my parents asked me if I needed to go at least 10 times before we got in the car. (Gets ‘em every time!…)

Why Bai? You mean besides the 100% employee discount? Well, I like working for Bai because the drink tastes yummy, the bottles look cool and I always know where to find the boss when I can’t sleep in the middle of the night.

John’s Journey …

Bai recently received a nice review on a blog called “John is Fit,” written by a guy who asks readers to follow him on his “journey from FAT to fit.”

In writing openly about his 20-year struggle with his weight, John discusses his own eating and exercise routines as well as a variety of health-related topics. In the review, John notes the antioxidant benefits of Bai but also says that taste is even more important. After trying Bai5, he writes, “I may have just found my next non-water treat!”

It’s nice to see Bai make an impression with someone like John, who is working hard to keep a healthy balance in his life and is interested in how companies like ours try to help people do just that. I find it inspiring to see someone who isn’t afraid to put his own story out there for people to read about his ups and downs, and to see how others are joining in the discussions on John’s blog to encourage him and to contribute their own thoughts on health and success. One of the most satisfying aspects of building Bai has been the community of supporters that has grown around us, so I know how encouraging that must be for John, too. As our Bai journey continues, I’ll be keeping watch to see how John’s progresses as well.

California, Here I Come …

I’m heading west this week for Bai’s first participation in the Natural Products Expo West, the major trade show for the healthy products industry. The expo showcases products from around the world and draws more than 50,000 attendees — a great opportunity to introduce Bai to a wider audience of people who care about healthy products and ideas.

While I embrace any opportunity to spread the word about Bai, this event provides a particularly nice forum for highlighting our focus on antioxidants and the unique qualities of the coffee superfruit in Bai. I recently came across the blog for the Natural Foods Merchandiser (the official magazine of the expo), where there have been numerous discussions about the health benefits of antioxidants. So I look forward to spending the next few days talking with and learning from people who are as passionate as I am about finding innovative ways to help people enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

The Natural Products Expo West runs March 11-14 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. We’ll be at booth No. 5851 — so for anyone who plans to attend, please come on by!

On Any Given Day …

Here in Bai-land, I hear a lot of things you might expect, like “I really love this drink!” or “Where can I buy more?”

But on any given day, questions are posed to me that are a bit more unexpected, such as “Can this help with menopause?” or “Have you ever thought about selling Weasel Coffee?”

A few days ago I was talking to a woman who had recently tried Bai for the first time. She proudly exclaimed how energetic she felt, then we talked for a bit about antioxidants and their health benefits — it was a very pleasant conversation. Then, as she turned to leave, she mentioned in no uncertain terms that the “change of life” was upon her. “Do antioxidants help with menopause?” she asked. “Because it’s driving me crazy!” I had to admit I hadn’t done my research on that one … yet!

Not long afterward, I received an e-mail from a business contact extolling the virtues of a coffee fruit product called “kopi luwak,” or “civet coffee.” This is a drink made from beans of a coffee fruit that have been eaten, digested and, um, released by a civet (a catlike mammal that lives in Asia and Africa). Now, everyone knows how fond I am of the coffee fruit. But the notion of this particular blend didn’t exactly get my blood pumping. Through a little more research, I learned that kopi luwak is produced in Southeast Asia and one translation of its name is “Weasel Coffee.” Hey, I’m all for innovation and taking risks. But something tells me that Watermelon Weasel Waste won’t be the next Bai flavor hitting the shelves.

Those “Dastardly” Free Radicals …

I caught this clip of a great show on the Food Network called “Good Eats,” which digs into the science behind our favorite foods. In this clip, host Alton Brown explains the body’s battle against free radicals and the role that antioxidants play in combating these “dastardly villains.” Enjoy …
